For parents
Is it the reading – or is it the eyes?
According to a Menon Economics report, 40,000 children in Norway have an undiscovered need for vision correction. The health-centre test checks each eye separately – it doesn't show how the eyes work together.
Tick what you recognise in your child – or in yourself.
This is not a diagnosis – just a help to know when to get in touch.
Our speciality
When the eyes don't quite work together
Most people have a slight misalignment. The brain compensates – but at a cost. With the extended MKH method and Zeiss Polatest we measure binocular vision very precisely, and exactly measured prism lenses can remove the strain.
Motor and sensory
Polatest distinguishes between conditions – important with small deviations.
The iceberg
The first measurement often shows only the tip. Follow-ups and adjustments are part of the treatment.
Referral
If we suspect eye disease, we refer you directly to an ophthalmologist.
The eye examination
Six steps. One explanation you understand.

- 1Your needsA conversation about symptoms, discomfort, eye health, general health and medication.
- 2TestsInitial examinations chosen from what you have told us.
- 3RefractionWe find the right prescription – and test your binocular vision.
- 4Outer and inner eyeInspection of the eye to detect any medical changes.
- 5Further measurementsEye pressure, retinal imaging/OCT and other tests as needed.
- 6Your vision statusA clear conclusion with an explanation – and a solution made for you.

Wenche Pile
Headaches since the age of five
A squint, headaches and 'underachiever' in her school report. Only as an adult did she learn that help existed – in Voss.

The shooting champion who couldn't study
Vision-related headaches stopped his studies and work – until Alf senior found major binocular problems. A customer for over 25 years, and a national team shooter for over 25 years.
His son is the second generation of the family to be helped at Opheim.

Are the lines straight?
The Amsler grid is a simple check of the macula. It doesn't replace an examination – but it can tell you when to come in.
- 1Hold the grid about 45 cm from your eye, with reading glasses if you use them.
- 2Cover one eye and look at the dot in the centre.
- 3Are the lines straight and the squares equal? Are any areas missing?
- 4Repeat with the other eye.
- If lines look wavy, bent or blurred, it can be a sign of changes in the retina. Contact an optician or doctor promptly.
